Customer Reviews for Sainte Mere Eglise & Utah Beach

Sainte Mere Eglise & Utah Beach

Leave Cherbourg and drive to Sainte-Mère-Eglise, located in the middle of the traditional Normandy livestock breeding area. This town brutally entered the news headlines in 1944 when the US 82nd Airborne Division troops landed here and liberated Sainte-Mère-Eglise on June 6th. Enjoy a guided visit to the village. Just in front of the Town Hall, you will see Milestone Zero, symbolizing the start of the Road to Freedom. Inside the church, a modern stained-glass window features the American parachute drop. The tour continues by driving to Sainte-Marie-du-Mont; then, relax for a scenic drive along Utah Beach with a stop en route at the Crisbecq Battery (outside view only; entrance fee not included) before you return directly to Cherbourg.Notes:Inside church visit(s) may not be possible if religious services are being held.

Wonderful excursion and lots of history. If you have already been to Omaha this is a great tour to see and hear a little more about WW2 and the liberation of the French.

The visit to Sainte Mere Eglise was of great interest and the town has acknowledged tastefully the efforts made to free them.
The visit to Utah beach was a must and whilst the area is aimed at the tourist it is easy to find a quite spot and reflect on what happened on D Day.
This is a tour that should be done if you have the opportunity.

Too long in the village. When you go to the D Day Beaches, you should go to Omaha and see the cemetary and HONOR those men. who fell at that place. Without seeing the cemetary is almost an insult!! Omaha is the beach to see!

The tour guide and bus driver were excellent. The sights to/from Utah Beach and Sainte- Mere-Eglise are filled with historical significance and wonderful to view. The coaches were very comfortable. We were fortunate to be there on June 4, just two days before the anniversary of D-Day and were privileged to see the celebrations being held in memory of those who gave so much for freedom.
