Get to know Fort-de-France, the capital of Martinique on this delightful walking tour. Meet your English-speaking guide and set out on foot from the Belain d’Esnambuc Statue. Walk through bustling, narrow city streets learning about the city’s rich history, architecture and tropical plants. Highlights include Fort St Louis, which guards the harbor, the War Memorial, and La Savanna. Pass the Schœlcher Library, named after the island’s most famous abolitionist who labored to free Martinique’s slaves, the Prefecture building, and Maison Bougenot -- a traditional colonial home. See the Town Hall and Municipal Theatre before pausing for some fresh local juice or mineral water. Walk past the courthouse with its statue honoring Victor Schœlcher and the St Louis Cathedral before your tour ends at the main shopping street and your guide turns you loose for some retail therapy.Notes: Not advisable for guests with mobility limitations. The shops in town are closed on Sundays and holidays.

Review 1 for A Stroll through Historic Fort-de-France
Our tour guide was okay, but the content of the tour was not. You can see nearly as much by simply walking into town which is very close to the ship. Go to the Catholic church, the open-air market, and walk the streets. You'll see about the same things for free. This tour DOES NOT go to the actual fort.

Review 2 for A Stroll through Historic Fort-de-France
An interesting way to see the city, just be careful as the sidewalks are narrow, crowded and not well maintained. That said, I enjoyed seeing the sights, having a fruit drink and listening to our tour guide who was excellent. A fascinating city, just sorry we couldn't stay longer.
