A Walk through Old Quebec & Wine Tasting

Discover the European charm of the first French city in North America as you enjoy a short funicular ride to reach the castle-like Château Frontenac. It was here that Roosevelt, Churchill and MacKenzie King met to discuss their strategy during World War II. From the romantic boardwalk of Dufferin Terrace, you will have a spectacular view of the St Lawrence River, Ile d'Orléans, and the Laurentian Mountains. Walk through the walled city past Place d’Armes, the Seminary of Québec and the Ursuline Convent. In the heart of the lower town, the Place Royale is surrounded by the former homes of wealthy merchants. The square is also home to North America’s oldest standing Catholic Church—Notre-Dame des Victoires. Stroll through the charming pedestrian-only area of Petit Champlain. Among its narrow cobblestone streets you will find an array of quaint boutiques, specialty shops, and outdoor cafés. Stop at one of Québec's most historical buildings to sample a variety of wines from the Province of Quebec. Notes:Minimum age is 18 years. Please be advised that walking tours can have up to 2 hours of walking depending on the tour. Wear comfortable walking shoes.

This tour started with lots of promise - a good walk, a knowledgeable and helpful guide and a great city. Unfortunately, there seemed to be a reluctance to walk too far. We spent 45 minutes in Place Royale hearing about the architecture, murals and the church.
Then a short stroll to another church - and another - and another. I realize that religion played a huge role in Quebec's history, but there are many other sights that could have been seen - didn't go to the citadel, no peek inside the Chateau Frontenac ...
Wine and snack were fine. I suggest that you simply take a map and the free shuttle bus from the ship, and immerse yourself in the city. (You can have a really good meal and wine for the tour price)!

The weather came in and with the excursion on in the afternoon, my wife and I braved the day to see the town. Had a good walk, but got soaked, so we went back to the boat thinking we'd give the tour a miss. Found out the cruise line had organised a bus to give us a drier tour, which was much appreciated. Had a good drive around the town, and still stopped for our glasses of wine.

We had never been to Quebec before and we were interested in seeing the real Quebec, not necessarily the modern city. Our guide was Pierre, who introduced himself as the oldest among the guides, and he may have very well been the most knowledgeable. He was a walking encyclopedia of all things Old Quebec! Old Quebec is, in many ways, much like the cities in Europe we have seen, but with a unique story. Pierre showed and explained it all to us in a very personal way, making it all come alive for us. The wine tasting and snacks at the end was a great way to relax after a pretty long walk. This tour exceeded our expectations and we can heartily recommend it to other travelers!

This tour was excellent. The history of this area is remarkable, the cobblestone streets with outdoor cafes and historic buildings still being used from the late 1600's brings their cultures to life. We just returned earlier this week and we highly recommend this tour. the wine tasting event at the end was a lot of fun, so sit back and take it all in.

This tour explores historic Lower Quebec City and Upper Quebec City. The funicular is very touristy but you need to do it just once. Our guide was knowledgeable and answered any questions we had. This tour did not go into the Chateau Frontenac. The cobblestone streets and the buildings that are hundreds of years old made us feel like we were in Europe and not North America. It was charming. We walked back down to the lower city for our wine tasting. The tasting was at a restaurant that had once been someone's home. It was built sometime in the 18th century. Everyone was given three preselected Canadian wines to taste. Additionally there was French bread on the table and some sort of pate and brie. It did not appear that many people were enjoying the wines (lots of unfinished glasses). I think it might have been wiser if everyone had been able to order the beverage of their choice. Since there was a lot of pate and brie not eaten, I think serving the delicious crusty French bread would have been sufficient. While I found the tour educational, I thought it was overpriced.

Met our tour guide at the pier. This 3 hour tour was not cheap and all we got was a guide that talked about slopes of roofs and bricks and showed us pictures in a BINDER!. We walked and stopped while he talked on and on and on about nothing interesting. We went to 2 Church's were we only got "3 minutes " inside each!!!. He took so long talking and gave us no time to look inside. We had no bathroom break and 1 person had to leave us to go to a hotel restroom then try to catch up with us. The Funicular was a let down. They packed us in like sardines! This was the Worst excursion we have ever been on. We would have abandoned it except we wanted to taste the wine at the end. We were so glad to get to the tavern so we wouldn't have to hear our guide anymore. After the informal wine and cheese, ( which was delicious) 5 couples including us left because we were so upset with the tour. This is the first excursion ( which was our 10th cruise) that we left without tipping. This excursion needs to be reevaluated for quality purposes.

The tour guide was excellent, personable and entertaining with enough history to keep me interested. The walk was just the right amount and the city a nice blend of French and English. The wines and snack were fine; not great wines but an interesting taste of wines from an area that is not traditional wine country.
