This was one of our favorite tours. If you enjoy a walk in nature, you'll love this excursion. We saw scenery that we had never imagined so close to home. This park in unique, beautiful and accessible. The walk is not too hard and although you climb about half the time, the pace allows you to catch your breath. There are a few steps here and there so you have to be able to climb them. Other than that, it is not hard to do and well worth the small effort. Our guide was very knowkledgeable of the park, its different parts, plants and fauna. We even got to see an eagle!

About 8 of us were on this excursion. We were all transported in a comfortable, large van for about a 10-minute drive to a parking lot outside a wooded area. We were able to leave valuables in the van (some left coats and purses), and we took off walking. Our guide was a pleasant, middle-aged guy who carried binoculars and a tripod and used them often to stop and identify birds along the hike through the woods. My husband and I happen to be nature lovers, so we relished the chance to get off the ship and walk through a beautiful natural woods on a gorgeous morning in May. The guide did, however, take a bit too much time in our opinion to stop to identify a birdsong. He'd stop the group, set up the tripod or look through the binos, while the rest of us were milling around like sheep, just waiting, but that was just us. Others in the group who were birders I'm sure appreciated it, so if you are particularly interested in adding new birds to your list, you'd probably love it. So, after the 30-minute walk through level ground, we descended some steps onto a beach. Our guide set up the tripod again, and we looked at various things, then moved on across the beach, up some pretty steep steps into the woods again, where we made our way along another trail, this one immediately adjacent to a paved road. We could look down to the water below to views that were actually quite lovely. We then made our way back to another parking lot where the van was waiting for us, all in all, about a two-hour hike. Bottom line: I could have prompted the guide for more information about history, geology, etc., but I didn't. I was too busy breathing. He certainly was approachable and knowledgeable enough, so it's probably my own fault for coming away feeling less than satisfied. I wish he would have taught and talked like a teacher, I guess. I did ask the occasional question, something I suppose he expected us to do. The hike wasn't particularly strenuous except up those stairs from the beach. Some in our group soon figured out the easiest walking was on the paved road next to the rest of us who were puffing along on the hiking trail, but then you had to watch for cars. The scenery on this hike was very nice, though I admit I did expect to see the more spectacular sights of Acadia National Park. The guide was informative, though you should be prepared to ask intelligent questions in you want to learn anything. If you want to just take a pleasant nature walk, get off the ship and stretch your legs, you'll probably enjoy this.

Expensive but pleasant walk. The guide was excellent on the bus/walk. Although there too may people on the walk to get the full benefit of her knowledge while walking. The walk was not difficult and followed the coastal road most of the time. Still lovely countryside/coastal views while on coach and walk.

We loved the beauty of the area. Our guide seemed to really know what she was talking about. The walk was long enough to make you feel like you got your exercise, but short/easy enough that anyone could do it. We wish we had had more time to "play on the rocks" near the beach but otherwise enjoyed it.

We took this tour because we wanted to visit Acadia NP without spending the entire time on a bus. The tour was very short (2 hours) so we only got to see a very small portion of the park. Having read previous reviews of this excursion, we were aware that at least one of the guides who did this tour was a bird enthusiast; however, that didn't mean we'd be on the tour with such a guide. Guess what? Our guide was an amiable and enthusiastic ornithologist (with many other credentials as well). He brought a high powered scope so we could look through it and see the birds he had spotted or heard. His knowledge of birds was amazing. Surprisingly, even though we are not bird watchers, it was an interesting and educational tour. We walked along an easy path at a slow pace. However, since sometimes the path was uneven, I would not recommend this to anyone who is infirm. I only wish we could have seen more parts of the park and been given the opportunity to do more hiking.

Michael Goode shares his love and knowledge of Acadia through a relatively gentle two mile hike. We walked through some hills, along Sandy Beach, and past Thunder Hole. I suspect his path may vary from trip to trip. He is a BIRDER. You will see wonderful birds through his spotting scope but would enjoy having your own binoculars. He knows the Park history, geology, flora and fauna as well. My husband is 65, I'm 64, and our daughter is 25. We all loved this trip. It is not strenuous but one should be able to walk two miles up and down some gentle hills.

This is a very nice, hour (or so) walk along a portion of the rocky coast of Acadia National Park. We had a different guide two years ago for the same tour, who was an ardent bird watcher, as I am. So I couldn't help but be disappointed that this year's guide was a botanist and not very up on her bird information or finding them. This, of course, is no one's fault and for those interested plants and/or park history, the guide was very knowledgeable. On the plus side, though 7 had signed up for the tour only three of us showed up. This made for a very intimate tour with lots of opportunity to ask questions. Having done this tour twice now, I wouldn't bother doing it again.
