Customer Reviews for Swimming in the Blue Lagoon

Swimming in the Blue Lagoon

Depart from the ship and heading straight to the lagoon where you will spend approximately two hours relaxing and enjoying the natural resources of Iceland. The Blue Lagoon is located southeast of Reykjavík, near the fishing village of Grindavík, on the Reykjanes peninsula. A high-temperature geothermal field supplies the Reykjanes district with hot water and steam to run a power plant, and it is the mineral rich overflow water from this operation that fills the lagoon. The geothermal water is pumped up from 6,000 feet below the earth’s surface. High levels of silica, minerals and algae give the Blue Lagoon its rich, blue color and also form a light natural sediment on the bottom. Don’t miss this chance to swim in the refreshing waters of the Blue Lagoon, whose healing properties are legendary. Notes:Bring your swimsuit and a towel. European changing facilities, lockers, showers, soap and towels are also available at Blue Lagoon.

We loved the Blue Lagoon. Very relaxing and extra bonus, has a swim up bar! Could have definitely spent more time there than the two hours they give you on the excursion. By the time you change and shower naked before getting into the pool, you have already used 30 minutes of your time. Would have loved to be there in the evening, it is probably beautiful with all of the lights on.
A definite must do.

A dream come true - can now strike this one off my bucket list. Nothing like having a face full of silica mud and drinking a glass of wine whilst sitting in the Blue Lagoon. A bit difficult to walk around as it is a lava bottom but so much fun. The facilities are very good - not too crazy about taking a naked shower beforehand but when in Rome.....So relaxed in the bus returning to ship and I slept like a baby

We did this swim in the evening, and it was wonderful. The location was clean, and the staff very friendly. Our guide to the lagoon was great, and did a great job of telling us details

This was my third time swimming in the Blue Lagoon. It is so wonderful, warm and relaxing that I just had to experience it one more time. It was a bit unfortunate that our buses arrived at exactly the same time as buses from the other ships that were in town, but once I managed to locate an available locker, the Lagoon is large enough to absorb large crowds. It is very "user friendly" offering secure lockers for storage and for showering afterward shampoo and soap are available in the shower area, as are hair dryers available in a separate area where there are salon-style mirrors so you can see what you are doing as you dry your hair. Towels are available, for a price, but the ship had towels available for us take along, so no need to rent towels at the Lagoon.

I have heard of the Blue Lagoon "forever" and was glad to get a chance to experience it. The water was warm and wonderful, the lagoon large enough so that it didn't feel crowded. Since the water is filled with so many minerals, it is opaque and therefore nothing can be seen other than bobbing heads!!! Absolutely great for older people or those with "body issues"!!! The trip from the ship to the Lagoon was beautiful also. Sorry that I didn't bring a camera because the sunset was gorgeous... Thought that we'd make it back the following day for pix, but that didn't work out. For those that bring a camera, you can keep it in a secure locker, then take pix from adjacent areas....better yet, get a disposable underwater camera :-)
