Drive through Ponta Delgada, then head northeast along the pleasant roads bordering agricultural areas and stretching across the island to Ribeira Grande. This is the oldest and largest city on the north coast, and has a distinct air of Portuguese influence. From Pico da Barrosa Mountain, you will see fine views of the Fire Lake. Return to Ponta Delgada along the new road, descending towards Remedios. At a pineapple plantation, learn about the process of cultivating and marketing this delicious tropical fruit. Notes:The Azores Islands are very beautiful and are best enjoyed in fine weather. In case of poor visibility, this tour will visit the passion fruit liqueur kiosk.

It was interesting to see they grow their pinapples in greenhouses organically. Fire Lake was beautiful but not outstanding. Also interesting to know they have almost as many milk cows as they have people. Would have had more fun just exporing on our own. We bought some tiles with alphabet letters of our last name to grout on our new stucco house.
