Customer Reviews for Pearl Harbor VIP Military Base Experience

Pearl Harbor VIP Military Base Experience

Travel through Honolulu with authentic World War II-era radio and film footage, bulletins, movies and music played on the coach, setting the mood for a fascinating and nostalgic look into the 1940s. At Pearl Harbor, you’ll take a genuinely interesting and personalized tour guided by a historian-docent who wears a World War II uniform. This is the only tour of World War II Battlefields, including exclusive access to military bases, the Arizona Memorial, Punchbowl and highlights of Honolulu city. It is a fascinating and nostalgic look into the events of the 1940s that would change the course of history. Start with a visit to the Pearl Harbor Visitor Center Museum to view a documentary film with actual film footage from December 7, 1941. Next, board the Arizona Memorial via U.S. Navy shuttle boat. Follow the Japanese flight pattern to Oahu’s famous Fighter Command Post—Wheeler Field—where you will learn about the 14 Army Air Corps Pilots who were airborne on the Day of Infamy. Your next stop is at the historic Schofield Army Barracks—the largest Army Base outside the Continental U.S. and home to the 25th Infantry Tropic Lightning Division. Tour Fort Shafter and see the famous Quarters 5, residence of General Walter C. Short, Commander of the U.S. Army Pacific in 1941. Drive along beautiful Palm Circle and visit the Pineapple Pentagon—Headquarters of the U.S. Army Pacific Command. Continue to Punchbowl National Memorial, the final resting place of more than 35,000 Americans who proudly served their country. As you drive through downtown Honolulu, view Iolani Palace—the only royal palace on American soil. Your last stop is at Home of the Brave—a 1940s private museum full of World War II memorabilia. Before returning to the pier, you’ll see the Jeep and the 1942 Army-issue Harley Davidson motorcycle used in the Disney movie Pearl Harbor.Notes:The Tropic Lightning Museum at Schofield Barracks is closed on Mondays. Wear comfortable clothing and shoes. Photos are allowed except where restricted by National Security. Due to military base operations, actual tour routing and military sites visited may be changed or substituted without advance notice. A buffet lunch is included at a Military club. Swimsuits and tank tops are not permitted on the Arizona Memorial. No bags are allowed within the Arizona Memorial Visitor Center. Paid storage is available (at your own expense). Cameras, medication and a water bottle can be carried. Bring photo ID for access to military bases. There may be a delay at Pearl Harbor as timed entrance tickets are issued on a first-come, first-served basis. While waiting, you can visit the exhibition center, view the interpretive displays depicting the attack, or purchase a light refreshment from the café. Bring photo ID for access to military bases. Some of the sites visited are not suitable for wheechairs.

Recommend this highly. A trip to Pearl Harbor -- although we've been there once before, it wouldn't feel right if we missed it regardless -- special military stops that no one else has access to, a fantastic lunch at Schofield Barracks and a stop at Dan's family's museum -- Dan was our tour guide...his dad owns the tour company -- made our day!

If you are interested in the locals and logistics of December 7 this tour is for you. At each stop, (Schofield Army Barracks, Wheeler Field, Fort Shafter and of course Pearl Harbor) there are buildings from the era to see and any visit to the Arizona Memorial is a somber and moving event.
We rode in a passenger van with a very knowledgeable and engaging guide/driver. He had historical photos and maps to illustrate the day and its events. We had a buffet lunch on Fort Shafter in a cafe that was also used by military and civilian workers. The food was good and the company was impressive.
The tour included an inside visit to the Tropic Lightning Division's museum. This small but informative stop is also in a very historic building, the old base library on Schofield Barracks. Both my wife and myself were impressed by this tour and had a wonderful time.

My husband and I agreed this was the best excursion we have ever taken. Duke was an enthusiastic and super well informed guide, making sure we were all enjoying ourselves and learning all we could. He seemed to be everywhere at once as we walked around the sites. The private WWII museum was incredible - not just war related items, but wonderful items relating to the life on the homefront. What very nice people run this tour company - patriotic, kind, well-informed, and a joy to spend the day with.

This tour is well thought out and rich in content and tibits about WWII and Pearl Harbor. All of the stops are interesting and paced well. The docent led tour guide is knowledgeable and friendly. The tour's last stop was a unique 1940s museum that was fascinating to browse through and a great place to pick up some memories of the trip.

My husband loves history. He can remember Roosevelt's address on Dec. 8th, as he sat in class, so he really enjoyed this tour. I had never been to Pearl Harbor and was moved by the things I saw. The tour was great, The food was good and had a nice variety. The 7 hours flew by with interesting places and informative dialogue from the guide.
I would recommend this excursion.

We took this tour in December 2011. The Home of the Brave tour company is excellent. The guide was informative, funny and kept us all interested. We had had to work with HAL and the company in order to get permission for my DH scooter. It was well worth the effort.
The groups were small (20 max) and this tour immersed you in the history of the war - beyond just the bombings at Pearl Harbor. Lunch at the Army base was very good. Nice selection and beautiful setting.
Would take this again and would highly recommend it to either cruisers or land vacationers

This was just wonderful. It sounds like a long excursion, but it flew by, and yet, we never felt rushed. Our tour guide, John, was knowledgable and personable. Every stop was given enough time and the information was designed to add to the experience. I can't say enough good about this excursion. I would pay double what we paid for it and I would take it again and again. Just go, you won't regret it for a second.
