Glass-Bottom Boat to Turtle Cove: A Swim & Snorkel Adventure

This three-hour boat cruise covers the entire western half of the island and offers a chance to learn Bermuda's interesting historical facts and urban legends. Discover Bermuda's unique architecture and see where the rich and famous live. You may even solve the mystery of the Bermuda Triangle. Aboard the boat, you’ll cruise to the Sea Gardens, passing through the natural habitat of Atlantic green turtles. Join your Bermudian host to look through the boat's glass bottom, as he explains the amazing underwater view of coral reefs growing on a 19th-century shipwreck—now home to the turtles, enormous groupers, and thousands of fish species that are so tame they surface to participate in a feeding frenzy. At Turtle Cove, jump in for a swim and snorkel adventure in waist-deep water. The sea garden here is full of exquisite marine life—you can even touch certain species. Those who prefer not to snorkel can rest on the beautiful beach where you can relax or swim. On the scenic ride back, enjoy a rum swizzle or refreshing soft drink.Notes:Wear your swimsuit under your clothing; bring a towel, sunscreen and a hat. Guests with heart problems, epilepsy, diabetes, back and heart problems, or asthma are not allowed to participate. Waiver must be signed and medical conditions disclosed. Maximum weight is 350 lbs. Minimum age is 8 years. Participants must be in good physical condition and comfortable swimming in water too deep to stand up.

From making you feel welcome to safely and thoroughly showing all sorts of items in and around the reef - it was a phenomenal way to spend several hours - the great cotravelers from our Dam ship made it even more enjoyable.

On an atypical windy visit in Bermuda, Captain Mark and the crew took us to a quiet beach protected from the wind. Although there was another boat there already, we safely anchored, and there was plenty of reef for all.
The crew was concerned with the safety of the passengers, and wanted everyone to enjoy their trip to Bermuda. The tour of Hamilton harbor was informative, telling us a bit about Bermuda. We then went out to a shipwreck to view some more fish through the glass bottom of the boat. Since we had done this before, my husband and I stayed up top and had a great conversation with Mark about some local Bermuda politics and economy.
We even saw a couple of sea turtles during our trip around the harbor!

This three-hour tour is not worth the money you put out. There were some Bermuda facts and urban legends described. That part was acurate. While we did visit a habitat of Atlantic green turtles, partake in an underwater view of coral reefs growing on a 19th-century shipwreck - the fact that the fishes have become accustomed to feeding by the crew of this boat is not very humane or natural. In addition, the bread fed to the fish leaves a mess in the water which can not be good for the island's already diminishing living reef. There wasn't much to see in this snorkel adventure, and their wan't a guided tour of the sea garden. The beautiful beach where you could supposedly relax was way to small to accomidate our boat tour, and the additional tour that was there as well. On the ride back you could enjoy a rum swizzle or refreshing soft drink if you had the cash to pay - nothing complimentary.

I have to say, Capt Mike was such a great guide. He is so enthusiastic and it's obvious he loves what he's doing and cares about the environment. We enjoyed the ride out, all of his informative comments on the region and so compassionate about the history of the island. He took us to a "bay" were the turtles play, saw a ship wreck and learned the history of the ship, fed fish and the snorkel area was shallow enough to get off the boat with ease and then go out as far as you were comfortable. The equipment was in good shape and the use of "noodles" was a real plus that we hadn't expected. Saw some great coral, and fish. The libations afterward were a real plus too....Definitely a must do....

This tour was great! Friendly knowledgeable captain and crew with interesting info on sail out. Shallow draft of ship allows cruising close to coastline that you don't get with other tours. Stopped to spot many sea turtles and the captain's knowledge of and passion for them was infectious. Then the snorkle....into shallow water right off the back of the craft, and able to see close up all the corals we had seen in the glass bottom and learned about. Clean and clear location shallow and calm - great for all. Safety and enjoyment of all was their goal, and they achieved it!
