Customer Reviews for River Tubing

River Tubing

Fed from sources located deep in the island's interior, the Balthazar River snakes through exotic tropical rain forest teeming with flora and fauna. Your adventure begins with a 45-minute drive out of the town of St George’s, through the scenic hilly interior of the Grand Etang Rain Forest Reserve to Balthazar Estate. The drive brings you directly to the tubing launch site. After a safety briefing, you will be provided with a life vest, modified inner tube and a paddle before getting into the river. A wet, wild and wonderful journey awaits as you and your guide gently spin and swirl in the currents of the river, taking in the exotic scenery of tropical vegetation and wildlife. This is a thrilling ride down the river, stopping only in the pools along the way to catch your breath. At the conclusion of your journey, you will enjoy a much-deserved rum punch or glass of local fruit juice before returning to the ship.Notes:Minimum age is 6 years old. Maximum weight is 250 lbs. Not suitable for guests with mobility, back or neck problems. Pregnant women are not allowed to participate. Tour operates river conditions permitting. Wear aqua shoes and your swimsuit under your clothing; bring a towel, sunscreen and a hat.

This is a white water adventure, but somewhat tame and good for people of a wide age rage. People ride in individual tubes. It is tough for family or travel groups to stay together during the downstream ride as people are sent one at a time in no particular order, although there were multiple pauses where all participants would regroup before the first person started down the next section of river.
Several guides were stationed in each river segment to guide people, help anyone who got stuck or had equipment trouble.
Note: Everyone gets wet. Not so much in the tube, but the guides do splash everyone during the trip (and guests are encouraged to splash them back).
There were some minor differences in the actual tour compared with the provided description: no paddles were provided (and they weren't really needed), all participants must wear a provided helmet, use of sunscreen is discouraged as it can wash off in the river, the bus ride to and from was about an hour with total tour time over 3 hours, bathrooms were only available at the end of the tubing when the punch was served (which is before the bus ride back to the ship), participants may leave bags, towels, dry shirts, etc. on the bus during the tubing and then collect them after leaving the river. You must be able to walk a reasonable distance up hill to participate.
The island itself is green, lush, and mountainous. We passed the highest elevation road of the island on the bus.

The tubbing itself is not rough ,but its just relaxed floating . The bus ride to the location is very nice, you see a lot of the island with a lot of beautifull flowers. A nice excursion for all ages.
